What are Some Mindful Gifts For Grandchildren?

12/17/2018

We all understand just how easy it is to ruin our little loved ones, but now and again we may go overboard with gift-giving.

Below are 5 ideas to help you when it comes to your gift-giving this year:

1. Do not buy better presents than the parents.

If you truly wish to provide a grandchild something costly, consider kicking in part of the purchase cost as well as letting the parents contribute, as well, to make sure that both parents and grandparents can share in the credit.

2. Don't buy gifts that do not "fit.".

The next time you're around your grandkids, take a look around their bedrooms. Observe their routine. Figure out which playthings and games they play with the most. Notice their closets. Take notes if you have to.

3. Don't buy presents that don't fit the house.

Often presents given by grandparents are a great fit with household values, yet a poor fit for the house. Don't give a gift that takes up a whole lot of space if the area is small. Consider whether a present for outdoor use is really sensible if there's not much area outside.

4. Don't buy gifts the moms and dads will certainly hate.

Aside from knowing your grandchildren, it's also important to understand their parents. Understanding the moms and dads' values can keep you from a multitude of gifting sins.

5. Don't buy various other "special" gifts.

Grandparents should not think that it's alright to get a "first" gift. Always ask before you purchase.

Remember why presents matter.

A gift is more than something wrapped in attractive paper.

It says 2 things to grandchildren: first, I see who you are, and second, this is a part of what I encourage you to be.

Obviously, that doesn't indicate that presents can not be for pure enjoyable, so whatever you select, do it with a sense of respect for both the children and their moms and dads!
