Grandparent Checklist

We asked the highly respected and acclaimed instructor, Reveta Bowers, to provide us her thoughts on grandparenting. Check below our Grandparents checklist...

1. The love you feel for grandchildren is only great if you give voice to it genuinely and always. Tell them exactly how you really feel and just how much they're loved, but also let them know when you are not happy, to make sure that in their eyes you're credible and believable.

2. Just because their parents may have different beliefs from your own, grandchildren still need to know your values as well as why you have them. If there are stuff you sincerely hold as values, share them without judging their' differences. When they are deciding as they get older, your values may rise in worth.

3. Physical affection is never lost on a grandkid. Hugs, kisses, high fives, and fist bumps are ways to connect on both physical and emotional level. Hugs to express love as well as empathy are just as valued.

4. Write them thank you notes when they give something or do something terrific, plus it's completely okay to expect one in return for stuff you provide. The exchange of meaningful notes isn't lost on any generation. They are also wonderful keepsakes and sources of giggling and memories.

5. As grandparents you are excellent educators regarding things you enjoy and love doing. Cook with each other, take strolls, put together a scrapbook or picture album, cook supper, throw a ball or swim. All activities are better when shared. Read an old favorite novel from your youth.
